Mindmap Studio for Jira Cloud

    Overview

Mindmap Studio for Jira Cloud is an Atlassian Forge app for Jira Cloud, developed by BranchCreation S.L.U.

Jira shows work as lists and boards, which makes it hard to see how projects, epics, issues, sub-tasks, components, versions, sprints and links fit together. Mindmap Studio draws that work as an interactive, GPU-rendered map. You can explore a whole site, a project or a single issue visually, and edit issues straight from the map: every change is written back to Jira as the signed-in user, so Jira permissions always apply.

Because it runs on Atlassian Forge, the app has no vendor-owned server and no vendor-owned database. Mindmap Studio does not declare any external egress: Jira content is read and written only through Jira's own REST API, and map exports are generated in your browser. See the Privacy Policy and Subprocessors pages linked at the bottom of this page.

    Key Features

    FeatureDescription
GPU-rendered mapLarge hierarchies of projects and issues are drawn with WebGL (Three.js), so big sites stay fluid to pan and zoom.
Several visualizationsSwitch the same data between Prefuse, MindMap, Treemap, Sunburst, Org chart and Circle pack layouts.
LensesRegroup the map by hierarchy, components, versions, assignee, sprint or issue links.
Edit from the mapCreate issues, rename them, re-parent them, assign, transition, set components, fix versions and sprint, and create or delete issue links from the canvas and the context menu.
Issue paneOpen an issue next to the map to read and edit its details without leaving the view.
UndoReverse recent edits made from the map.
ExportDownload the open map as PNG, PDF or SVG from the toolbar. Export runs in the browser and nothing is uploaded.
Where you need itGlobal page, project tab and issue panel, so the map is one click away from wherever you work.

    How It Works

    1. Open the map from Apps → Mindmap Studio (whole site), from the Mindmap Studio tab of a project, or from the Mindmap panel on an issue.
    2. The app loads projects, issues, fields and links through Jira's REST API, using the signed-in user's own permissions. You only see what Jira already lets you see.
    3. The data is turned into a tree in your browser and laid out by the chosen visualization and lens. Large branches are summarized as "more" nodes and loaded on demand.
    4. When you edit something on the map — for example renaming an issue or dragging it under another parent — Mindmap Studio calls Jira as you. If Jira refuses the change (permissions, workflow or required fields), the change is not applied.
    5. Choose Export in the toolbar to save the current view as PNG, PDF or SVG. The file is generated locally by your browser.

    Installation

    1. Go to Jira Settings → Apps → Find new apps.
    2. Search for "Mindmap Studio for Jira Cloud".
    3. Click Get app / Install, and review the requested permissions (see Permissions & Data Handling below).
    4. Open Apps → Mindmap Studio. A Get started page is also available from the Jira administration area.

    Using Mindmap Studio

    • Site map: Apps → Mindmap Studio shows every project you can browse.
    • Project map: the Mindmap Studio tab in a project shows only that project.
    • Issue map: the Mindmap panel on an issue centers the map on that issue and its related work.
    • Visualization and lens: pick them from the toolbar. The camera position is remembered while you switch, so you do not lose your place.
    • Context menu: right-click a node to create a child issue, rename, re-parent, assign, transition or link it.

No per-project setup is needed: there is no catalog or configuration to maintain, and administrators do not have to enable projects one by one.

    Permissions & Data Handling

Mindmap Studio requests the following scopes:

    ScopePurpose
read:jira-userShow assignee names on the map.
read:jira-workRead projects, issues, fields, components, versions, sprints and issue links to build the map.
write:jira-workApply the edits you make from the map: summaries, parents, fields, assignees, transitions, and links.

Every read and write of Jira content is made from the user's browser with Jira's own API, as the current user, so Jira project permissions, issue security and workflow rules apply exactly as they do in Jira itself. The app's backend (a Forge resolver) only confirms the signed-in account and checks the Marketplace license; it does not read or write issue content.

Mindmap Studio does not declare any external egress, does not use Forge storage or Forge SQL, and does not send Jira data to BranchCreation or any third party. See Mindmap Studio for Jira Cloud - Subprocessors for the full disclosure.

Production sites need an active Marketplace license (including a trial) to open the map.

    Data Retention

    • Mindmap Studio does not keep a copy of your Jira data. The map is built in your browser and discarded when you close it.
    • The only value kept is a harmless display preference (the width of the issue pane), stored in your own browser's local storage.
    • Edits made from the map are ordinary Jira changes and follow normal Jira retention and history.
    • Exported PNG, PDF and SVG files are created on your device; managing them is up to you.
    • Uninstalling the app leaves Jira issues untouched.

    Uninstalling the App

    1. Go to Jira Settings → Apps → Manage apps.
    2. Find Mindmap Studio for Jira Cloud.
    3. Click Uninstall.
    4. The Mindmap Studio pages and panels disappear. Changes you made to issues from the map remain in Jira.

    Troubleshooting

    • The map is empty or a project is missing: Mindmap Studio only shows what your Jira permissions allow. Check that you can browse the project in Jira.
    • An edit from the map was rejected: Jira refused it, usually because of permissions, a workflow condition, or a required field. Make the same change in Jira to see the exact reason.
    • The app says it requires an active license: on production sites the Marketplace license must be active or in trial.
    • A very large branch shows a "more" node: expand it to load the remaining issues on demand.
    • The map is slow or blank: Mindmap Studio needs a browser with WebGL enabled; check hardware acceleration in your browser settings.

    Support & Contact

For end users with questions or data requests, contact your Jira site administrator first; administrators can uninstall the app or use Jira/Atlassian's built-in data-subject tools.
